Cruise woes

460 passengers on board the MV Van Gogh, a luxury cruiseliner, are being put up in Funchal, Madeira, after their ship was impounded in a legal dispute. The liner was owned by tour operator Travelscope, which went bust at the end of 2007. People who had booked on a 3 month round-the-world cruise through Travelscope were transferred to the Van Gogh, but are now stranded in Madeira. More here.

  1. I feel bad for those passengers, imagine taking what you think is going to be the trip of lifetime only to be stranded!

  2. Goodness, what a nightmare for those people. A 89 yr old man from my Ohio city, got on a Carnival cruise with his family. He had blood in his stool and told the doctor on the ship. They forced him OFF the ship at the next stop..i forget where...like in the Caribeann somewhere and he had to find the money to FLY all the way home to Ohio!!!! His doctor then found out the only reason he had that problem was due to a new med he had started. This poor old man is so mad.

  5. Oh those poor people.  I love cruising but 3 month's on a ship would put me over the edge.  Even the 16 day cruise we're considering will be about my limit.  Hopefully, the passengers will soon be safely home or back on the ship finishing out the cruise.  Linda in WA
