Nice sunny day, with occasional cloud passing over. The forecast suggests a maximum temperature of 15C, which is only a smidgen shy of 60F. Tonight should see a hard frost, with the mercury down to -7C on the mainland; similar weather tomorrow.
A meeting takes place today about the contentious North Lewis Windfarm. Representatives of the developers, AMEC-affiliated LWP, meet the Scottish Government to see what can be done to save the project. Ministers indicated 2 weeks ago that they were minded to reject it. The local council have been crying blue murder for a fortnight, accusing the opponents of the scheme (environmental organisations like RSPB and SNH) of (and I quote) "miserable environmental colonialism, sitting in the Central Belt [Edinburgh] and lecturing the natives".
The council could be accused of a high-handed approach by trying to stuff a windfarm down the throat of a populace that is generally strongly opposed. It is, in my opinion, also quite narrow-minded to put all the eggs of economic development, into the basket of windfarms, rather than try to diversify. And tourism is a mainstay of the local economy, which stands to be damaged by the windfarm. We shall see.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out. You are having some nice temperatures today ~ it is still beyond cold here and snowing...ugh.
