And this is actually quite serious. The charity Water Aid has earmarked 19 November as World Toilet Day. I copy an abridged version of a letter they published in The Hebridean, one of our weekly regional papers.
Could you imagine not having a toilet? What if for one day only, no-one in the UK had a toilet - it's pretty unthinkable, isn't it? Yet for 2.6 billion people in the world having no toilet is a daily reality.
Children are literally dying for the toilet. In the developing world, a child dies every 15 seconds from water related illnesses.
It costs just £15 to provide someone with safe water, sanitation and hygiene education. Spare a thought for the two fifths of the world's population who have to live without somewhere safe to go to the toilet.

I live a sheltered life-I have never seen a toilet with a square seat and bowl.

You can actually buy a toilet through a world gift charity, if everybody gave up a Christmas present then they could make a difference to a family less priviliged. My neighbour does it every year, and has bought Chickens, goats and a toilet to help others.
