Aircrash
A small aircraft has come down in mountainous terrain southeast of Oban, Argyll (80 miles northwest of Glasgow). The Piper plane, which can carry 4 people, had taken off from Connel airfield, northeast of Oban, bound for Blackpool and onward to a small airfield in Essex, southeast England. It was last seen on radar at 10.50 am yesterday at an altitude of 5,000 feet and descending rapidly. Wreckage was discovered by a farmer on the slopes of Carn Dearg mountain. Staff at the Essex airfield also raised the alarm when the plane failed to arrive.
Stornoway Coastguard helicopter is on its way to the scene, but fatalities are thought to be likely. The plane had a family of 3 on board.
