You're warned

In mainland Scotland, the A830 Mallaig to Fort William road is being upgraded. It is the final phase of works to double the single-track carriageway between Arisaig and Lochailort, about 5 miles or so. How long is this going to take? Answer below.

For reference, the A830 is an important link road for ferries to Skye and the Small Isles, which depart from Mallaig. The length of works suggests that all will be complete by early 2009.

  4. 83 weeks???  They have shut down a small section of an interstate across the river in Louisville for about 8 weeks, and, although the inconvenience hasn't caused as many problems as you would have thought from hearing people talk about it, I still couldn't imagine what would happen over here if a road were shut down for 83 weeks!  And "delays possible"?  That is quite a long section of road, though.

  5. Road construction, when performed incorrectly, is a pain in the horses rump.  Here's to hoping yours goes well!
