A boat carrying 13 children and an instructor is reported to have overturned on Loch Carnan in South Uist, 70 miles south of Stornoway. Twelve of the children have been recovered, but the search for the last child is still on-going. Conditions at the moment are bad, with strong winds and heavy rain. The Coastguard is continuing the search at the moment.
This large scale map shows Loch Carnan on the northern end of South Uist; the map below gives the regional view, with South Uist at the bottom of the map, above the word 'copyright'. Both maps courtesy Ordnance Survey.

I was sat watching canoeing and windsurfing as well as children topper sailing down by the Lake yesterday while Hollie my grandaughter paddled. The children who were learning these activities were really enjoying themselves. They eventually came out exhausted but exhilerated and talking twenty to the dozen! How tragic that something similar was being done in the Hebrides with the threat of danger and drowning for the schoolchildren you reported on Guido. God Bless the little one who is missing. How tragic for them all! Jeanie
ReplyDeleteOh, dear, those conditions are not good. At least it's not wintertime, then, I suppose it it was wintertime, that instructor wouldn't have been out there with the children. As parents, we do wish them to experience things, and to learn how to do them properly. Living life can carry risks. May that child be fine, somehow.
