Hurricane update - 2 August

Typhoon Usagi is now crossing the far west of Japan, over the island of Kyushu on its way to the Sea of Japan. The typhoon will quickly lose strength, as it emerges over cold waters, below 75F. A tropical cyclone needs waters of 80F or warmer to be sustained. Am awaiting news of its impact.

Al Jazeera reports that 5 were injured and 10,000 without power as the cyclone passed through. The Japanese had this "again?" feeling, as this is the second typhoon to strike the region in the last few weeks. Elsewhere, three earthquakes on Sakhalin Island, north of Japan, prompted a fear of tsunamis.
