We're back to rain and grey skies this morning. Should last into tomorrow as well, after which a clearance of a day or so will come along. I'm glad at any rate that we don't get hot weather like they had down in London yesterday, with the mercury at 30C / 86F. Ours reached 17C / 63F, and I'm quite happy with that.
The search for the Polish holidaymaker who was swept into the sea on Saturday was abandoned yesterday. It was the sister-in-law, aged 18, of the 26-year old who was also carried away by the large wave at Point of Stoer Lighthouse, and later found dead. Only goes to reinforce the repeated warnings about the dangers of the sea in rough conditions.
Here in Lewis, there are two lighthouses on clifftops - Tiumpan Head, 11 miles east of Stornoway, and Butt of Lewis, but the cliffs are too high for waves to overtop. Arnish Lighthouse stands on a low cliff, but the geography of the location means that it is not readily swamped.
