Fairly benign day today, with some sunshine and some wind. Contrasts with conditions overnight, which claimed one life, and possible two, at the Point of Stoer lighthouse on the mainland (between Lochinver and Ullapool). Just before half past eight last night, a man and his sister in law were standing on rocks near the lighthouse, when they were struck by a wave. The man disappeared into the sea, but the Stornoway Coastguard helicopter located him in the water. After being winched on board, the crew found him to be lifeless. A search for the sister in law continued late into the night, and resumed at first light this morning.
