Hurricane update - 14 September

There are 3 tropical cyclones in the Atlantic, one of which is no longer a formal tropical cyclone. Nice contradiction, but Florence is coming to church in Stornoway on Sunday. Expect lots of rain and wind. In the Pacific, we have one tropical storm near Mexico and one typhoon dawdling south of Japan.

Hurricane Gordon is packing winds at 110 mph in the middle of nowhere, but will come to haunt the south of the UK late next week.

Tropical Storm Helene is between Cape Verde (West Africa) and the Antilles, and will follow Florence and Gordon on a northerly track - as a hurricane.

What is going to affect land is Tropical Storm Lane, which has formed off Mexico. This is the 13th storm of the East Pacific hurricane season, and it will follow in the footsteps of hurricane John, a couple of weeks ago. Storm warnings are up for the west coast of Mexico, currently from Manzanillo to Cabo Corrientes. The NHC bulletin is inconsistent, and I have emailed them to advise them accordingly.
