A hovercraft will start plying between Portobello, east of Edinburgh and the Fife town of Kirkcaldy next week. Half hourly services are anticipated, although the BBC report did not state how long the crossing would take. It is hoped that this service will take some of the traffic pressures off the Forth Road Bridge, which is slowly coming apart at the seams. It was found that the metal cables, making up the huge supporting cables are snapping. By 2013, heavy lorries will have to be banned from the structure, and by 2019 the bridge may have to be closed altogether.

Those are dire straits to be in Guido. I wouldn't fancy using the Forth Bridge after reading that news report. How big is this Hoovercraft then? It surely has to be big enought to take transport. Jeanie
ReplyDeleteWow, I'd hate to cross that bridge...even on foot. Our new Narrows Bridge is due to open Sunday, I hope they did a better job on it. Linda in cloudy, overcast (for now anyway) Washington state
ReplyDeleteThomas has always wanted to build a hovercraft. He even has the plans for one. Maybe someday!

Just down the road from Kirkcaldy is Burntisland where my hubby's family comes from.
