Evening notes

Weather is still as atrocious as it was all day. The rain is pelting down, lashing against the buildings in town. Angry white horses ride on the basin outside, whilst holiday makers miserably look for accommodation - which is all fully booked. The ferry left 2 hours late, at half past eight this evening. It is timetabled to return at 12.45 am, but at this rate won't be back until 3 am. If it returns in the first place.

Was watching BBC News 24 when the news about the Foot and Mouth outbreak came through a quarter of an hour ago. Let's indeed hope that this is an isolated case. The severity of the situation has been borne out by the fact that Prime Minister Gordon Brown and several key cabinet ministers are returning from holiday. The cattle on the affected farm will be culled. I sincerely hope that we are not going to be treated to the same horrific images, sights, sounds and smells (as some commenters have described in my initial post) that we had during the 2001 outbreak.

  2. We could use some of your rain.  We are 6.5 inches below normal right now.  I'm afraid when we get some, we'll get too much, though.  I hope the Foot and Mouth outbreak isn't as bad as they fear.

  3. Even though your weather is atrocious Guido, it still has you waxing lyrical about it.   I liked the 'Angry white Horses ride on the basin outside' phrase.
We too have had a return visit from the rain and winds.  It would be pretty bleak outside my window if my garden wasn't reaping the benefits of all this rain we are getting too.  I have bright dots of colour everywhere from my 'brave wee flowers'.  Me? I must brave the 'hoolie' blowing up the hill shortly and pay a visit to the shops soon. I'd rather be huddled inside today.
I'm glad I'm not looking for accommodation like yon poor tourists.  Could they not have slept on the tail of your shirt?   Poor drookit souls.  Lol!
I saw the news on TV about the foot and mouth outbreak; but I heard from you about it first.  You are on the ball!   Wrap up well if you go outside at all today.  Take care.

  4. The weather is fantastic here Guido, there`s not a single cloud to be seen. How long will it last though...lol! The foot and mouth outbreak is very worrying indeed, let`s hope it is just the one case.
