which about sums things up this end. I'm feeling a bit better (thank you), although not all bugs have been knocked on the head yet. A few nasties remain, lurking in corners.
The oil prices have gone through the roof, everybody that drives a vehicle is squealing over the petrol prices. Sorry, I don't drive. The hauliers are complaining that they can't pass it on to their customers (like they don't, tsk). Yet, BP has announced a huge profit ($7.8 bn) in the first quarter of 2008. Someone is making a lot of bucks out of all this, and why? Here in the UK, we're paying in excess of $10 a (US) gallon - in my part of the country it is £6 a UK gallon. The US gallon is 3.78 litres, the UK gallon 4.54 litres. The taxman nets quite a bit of that apparently. So, I restate my question: why is the price of oil gone so mad?

The price of petrol is ridiculous Guido. I need my car for work but luckily it is very economical and it doesn`t cost me too much....yet. Kerry has to drive from Hampshire to Heathrow Airport and back every day and it costs her a small fortune. The government should put a cap on the prices the oil companies are charging before many people have to give up there cars.

I don't drive either, I don't think I'd want to either with petrol the price it is! They charge these ridiculous prices because they know they'll get away with it. I can't imagine too many people selling their cars because petrol has risen in price. It's not just petrol is it, look at the price of repairs, road tax, insurance etc, I'll take the bus anyday! I'm glad you're feeling a bit better. Jeannette xx
ReplyDeleteTen dollars a US gallon??? Woweeee. And WE complain about "our" gas prices!
ReplyDeleteI passed a station the other day that showed prices of $3.75.9 for a gallon of regular unleaded. Diesel is up over $4 a gallon and that's what the big trucks use. That is raising prices of food and other things dramatically. How about a big pot of chicken soup to get on back to 100%? Hope you're feeling better soon...Linda in Washington
ReplyDeleteYou know, I've never really griped about gas prices before. I always figured, well I drive and that is the way it is BUT my diesel fuel is $4.51 now and I can tell you it hurts to fill up! It really irks me the oil companies are showing such huge profits. I guess it is obvious BUSH doesn't have to pay for his fuel.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are feeling somewhat better.

It is pretty crazy, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteGlad you're feeling a bit better -- didn't realize you'd been ill! (High pollens here aaaccccchhhooooooo! cuz, well, it's bright and sunny and no rain.)
When firms make so many billions out of customers there should be some way of reducing prices so that loyal customers can benefit.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you are feeling a bit better now. I have recovered from my bug too...at last!

Hope things change for the better soon, but for now they just keep on rising. Happy to hear you feel better, take care!!
