Close of day

Tomorrow is 11 September, so there will be only one post on this blog: the memorial to Norberto Hernandez, who perished in the attacks on the World Trade Center 7 years ago.

An earthquake has struck Iran, at magnitude 6.1 on the Richter scale. The quake struck 11 hours ago, but reports of casualties are only just coming in.

After the collapse of budget airline Zoom, now holiday company Seguro has folded. 2,500 tourists are left stranded in their resorts, whilst flights home are being sorted out for them. Zoom's collapse gained prominence in northern Scotland, after it left the Inverness Gaelic Choir out of pocket to the tune of £4,000 and unable to travel to an event in America.

  1. I've made my memorial post for 9-11 but I also have a friend who celebrating her 70th birthday on this day.  I plan on doing an entry honoring her birthday, too.  I had not heard about the earthquake in Iran.  Linda in WA

  2. Whata shame aboutteh Inverness choir's visit to Canada.  Just one of 1000's of disapointed folks I should think. It was such a nice airline it was the one that Mary and I flew with when we went over to Canada...but I do think cheap prices are going to be low on the ground from now onward..  LOve  Sybil xx

  3. I didn't realize there was an earthquake in Iran.  What a mess for the stranded tourists and the choir.

  4. I missed news about the earthquake!  (And I even tried to read some of the newspaper yesterday, too.)  I do hope people are alright.

As you are likely aware, the memorial at the Pentagon was dedicated / opened yesterday.  Very moving (not there but it still hits us here, the memories et al).  Too hard for me to read other entries devoted to all of this, even while I can appreciate them.
