North Korea - perspective

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea, otherwise known as North Korea, was in the news this week after setting off a nuclear device. The jury is still out whether this was a nuclear explosion or a nuclear fizzle, according to BBC News.

I did some browsing this evening and came across the North Korean news site KCNA, which is based in Tokyo. It's interesting to get a view from the other side of the curtain, if it were. It also shows the personality cult surrounding the country's leader. Have a look at http://www.kcna.co.jp/item/2006/200610/news10/14.htm#13.
Particularly, search for an item entitled 'Mural "Cheers of Whole Nation"' [click Ctrl-F and put in Mural].

  1. That is kind of scary.  "...on his triumphant return to the homeland...."?  "...the unanimous desire of the Korean people to add brilliance to his revolutionary exploits"?  Did you see the piece Lisa Ling did on National Geographic where she went into the country in the guise of an eye doctor's assistant?  It was very revealing.  I don't know if would be on their website or not, but it was a really good piece.   I like your phrase "personality cult".  Very apt description.

  2. For any man to think outside of his society is a triumph in itself...rarely done across all waters....I'm not surprised...anymore...Ignorance is bliss because I once was...its all so sad
