VIVIs

I don't normally affix a Mood to my posts, but I'll go so far as to do today.
I thought the VIVIs were for fun, for networking, for showcasing your journal to the world. To display what you like doing in your blog. To show what you are like as a person. Everyone and everyone's is different - as I have said before.
I have picked up in recent weeks that the VIVI Awards are being used as a pretext for bullying-by-comment and email, against those that attract many readers or are nominated.
It has now led to one nominee declining the nomination and going private with her journal. Of course, I am talking about Lisa Jo (Queeniemart) and her journal Damaged Goods.

I'm not so naive as to being oblivious to the phenomenon of envy in the world. But to actually take this out into the ephemeral world of the Internet shows the culprits off as being devoid of any form of character at all. If your blog is ALL you have to show for yourself, oh dear.

Meanwhile (big breath), the votes for the Awards open this Thursday 2 November, and the Awards will be handed out on Saturday 11 November. Watch Jackie's journal for details.

  1. I am very close with LJ and she has been through the ringer with nasty comments in her journal and in others.  I agree with you if this journal is all you have to show for youself then your in deep.  But sadly I have learned that this little ViVi's award has become a playground for mean spirits and for others to feel they can not longer truly express themselves. I nomiated people, but I will not be voting.

  2. Don't I know it Guido! It really makes me sooo mad! I honestly don't understand why if someone gets more comments then you, or what ever else, then come to you and bully you, it has happened to me as well! It's sad!

  3. Oh no, I had thought all this was over with the trouble of a few weeks back.  I had no idea it had started all over again.  I was wondering why Lisa had gone private.  What is the matter with people, I will never understand them.  I did notice though that the trouble seems to stem from the other side of the Atlantic.
It is so sad when something that should be fun is spoiled. I have already found some great new journals through the awards.

  6. Well... I have not seen any bad comments, but I believe what you are saying or commenting on. It seems that events like the vivis can become hurtful to some and it is perhaps not a good idea to continue doing it.

Guido, how can I be sure of what time it is now? if my clock is on the right time or not on my computer? I can't rely on my other clocks

  8. I'll be glad when it's all over.  I don't like what's left in the wake so far.  <big sigh here too>.
Not sure I'll participate next year if they hold one.

  9. So sad, hate it's come to this. Have heard of her pulling out & going private, then heard of a few others that have gotten ugly emails & comments. So sad! This was supposed to be fun! Many are now saying they WON'T vote!
I have a feeling, we've not heard the end of it! When the awards are handed out, I look for more ugly comments!!! :(
    Have a good week.

  10. the VIVIs are ok but what has hurt me so much is that i felt i had to go private. I have been in JLAND for over 2 and a half yrs and i have met some wonderful people and now those who could have met me and maybe we could have helped each other will never meet due to some bs.
You are a really nice guy. hugs, lisa

  11. It's sad Lisa Jo felt the need to go private to get rid of the infantile scum who harrassed her. I went private a year ago because of a person at work but I'll always add people to my list of readers. There are a lot of people out there who seem to enjoy bullying others. 12. I've read Lisa Jo for several years now and consider her a good friend of mine.  It hurt my heart that she was attacked and went private.  No one should be able to control our actions but us.  She didn't deserve this at all.  I love her like a friend/sister.  Sadly enough, she's not the only one who came under such attack.  The awards will be over soon.  My award is that I have friends.  That's the best.
