Arbroath

The riddle of the human head on the beach at Arbroath, eastern Scotland, is coming closer to resolution. It would appear that the female was a migrant worker from eastern Europe who lived at Brechin, a dozen miles inland from Arbroath. Hundreds of people have rung in with information, and police are seeking to confirm her identity in order to inform next-of-kin. Apart from the head, the woman's hands were also found on the same beach.

Human remains on a beach at Carnoustie, just down the coast, are subject of a separate police investigation.
