Thursday notes

Brilliantly sunny day with quite a strong wind. However, it's already 14C, so no complaints there. Canvassing for local and Scottish Parliamentary elections has started; posters have been on every lamppost for more than a week now.

Tomorrow will see a prestigious piping competition in Stornoway, the Donald MacLeod memorial trophy contest. Attended that two years ago, and came away with ears ringing, after listening to the bagpipes being played in a hotel conference room for 6 hours at a stretch. I wish the competitors well, but will not attend in person.

  1. I don't blame you Guido....6 hours?  I would not be surprised if you had the pipes permenantly ringing in your ears still!  I love the bagpipes being played but I would rather listen to them outside than inside.
It's lovely here today too. The trees are greening up just beautifully now.    Jeanie

  2. Yes, I know what you mean about the noise.  I used to be in a Samba band and although I loved the music it made my ears ring even though I was wearing ear plugs.

    By for now,

    John.

  3. Wow 6 hours of bagpipes?? I don't think I could do it! It would give me a headache.  I love the sound of bagpipes though.
    Have a good day.

  4. It reminds me of a time some years ago when we looked after a friends labrador Barney. He was a lovely, quiet dog who was no trouble whatsoever. One day I heard this mournful howling coming from the living room, I went in to find Barney howling at full throttle along with the TV. A lone piper was playing his pipes and poor Barney obviously didn`t like it all.  When his owners returned to collect him they told us he had always hated the sound of bagpipes but they had no idea why...lol!
