Claims

The US Federal Government faces a bit of a steep bill with regards to the failure of the levees at New Orleans, during Hurricane Katrina. According to the Associated Press, it exceeds 3 quadrillion dollars. That looks something like $3,014,170,389,176,410. For reference, the US gross domestic product is roughly 13 trillion dollars. A stack of a quadrillion pennies would reach Saturn. The claims were probably slightly over-inflated to press home the message to the administration. Read more here.

  1. Oh this is rich, no pun intended...the last line "we are taking each one seriously" ~ what a joke!  They haven't taken the losses of Katrina seriously since day one. It is a black eye on the face of the US considering little or nothing has been done for so many yet we break our back to rush to the aid of every foreign country.  Don't get me started on this, it is a travesty.  I never heard of quadrillion before, LOL

  2. It's so sad what happened there. I bet no amount of money can take away the trauma for those poor people, but I bet it would sure help to go to towards helping them at least try to build a new life for themselves. Love Pam xx

  3. I wish they had kept the sum more in line with a number that made sense. Somehow in trying to make a statement in such a large sum they have only ended up making it seem surreal and unlikely. No amount of money will ever, ever repay these losses. I do think they should be awarded something to help them rebuild. I know all too well the horror of Katrina, not on a human front but rather from my dogs own eyes whenever it rains or a storm brews. When you watch a kind beautiful creature cringe and whine in pain, you are constantly reminded of the horrors of that storm. I can't come close to understanding how it must of been on the human level, when it still brings this reaction out of an animal. The least we can do is take care of our own country before we consider taking another problems on. (Hugs) Indigo
