The gale started 3 hours ago, and it's nasty outside with the heavy rains. Other parts of the country got their high winds last night. It caused damage, accidents and transport disruption. Our ferry will stay in Ullapool until this evening, and not make its customary midday crossing. Gusts up to 84 mph were reported. A rundown can be accessed here.
Meanwhile, snow and extremely low temperatures have claimed lives and caused chaos in Iran. Even the southern deserts had snow, whilst elsewhere the mercury went down to a polar -24C, that's about -10F. People froze to death in their cars, as 40,000 were stuck in their vehicles. The authorities have ordained a two-day holiday, and asked people to stay in their homes.

My goodness how horrible to freeze to death in your car ~ those poor people. We have high wind warnings today and showers. It is really blowing now, causing all kinds of disruptions for my satellite internet. :( Hope you can stay indoors nice & cozy!

what an awful way to die...those poor people. Scotland got the worst of it by far. N.Ireland's not too bad, trees down and power cuts to the north, only a few not connected now. The Foyle Bridge was closed until late morning, otherwise we are up and running well.
ReplyDeleteJust trying to catch up here Guido. I'm so behind on alerts.
ReplyDeleteThat man in the car was so lucky, it could have been more than his car that was damaged. And in Iran, Oh my. Fancy freezing to death in your car. Terrible.
