I have decided to delete my entry from yesterday, which pointed to the recording of the 911 call made by 9/11 victim Kevin Cosgrove. Judging by the reactions, I may have upset more people than I'd like to (which I don't), and perhaps I underestimated the depth of feeling there really still exists under the surface.
On a blog, it is very difficult to convey emotion. You can change your font, insert smileys. But it comes to life with the insertion of the videoclip. Quite a few people have seen the clip, not just through my blog, and the reactions were universally the same.
Sorry if I upset you - I posted it because I was upset myself.

I didn't listen to it because I wasn't ready. I figured I'd listen to it soon, though. I think if it's going to upset people they just don't have to listen. They do have a choice, yanno?

It was horrible. I wondered why the 911 despatch office allowed this to be put out to the public. I wonder what his wife and kids thought if they heard it. I know I certainly wouldn't like it if it was a relative of mine. We don't really need to hear someone screaming as they die, we know they all had horrific deaths that day, don't need to be reminded of it. Jeannette xx
ReplyDeleteI am glad I got to hear it, it put me right there beside him in that room. I cried all through it & had chill bumps all over my body, but I listened to the entire tape with such understanding of how it must have been for those men & women. God bless each & every one of them & TY for posting it or I never would have heard it.
ReplyDeleteGave me more insight into that awful day.
Blessings, Sugar
It's such an odd thing, this blogging. You expressed honest emotion best you could, in your own place, yet felt moved to change your own words, delete them, because of public opinion. I've been in that exact same place, actually changed my own original words, deleting others, to keep peace w/public outcrys of misunderstanding. I wonder where this country would be if Thos Jefferson felt moved to change our Declaration of Independance from England, since it angered so many British. It's a hard choice. No one wants to cause pain or misunderstanding. Yet we have a right to our words. A hard choice? Maybe not, could be it's just a matter of staying above the high-water mark. CATHY
