Ecological footprint

I'm not an eco-buff, Friends-of-the-Earth, Greenpeace type of person. Of course, I care about the environment, have double glazing, use public transport and TRY to buy local produce. Like h*** you can out here in the islands.

Found this site to calculate the ecological footprint I leave. Well, was in for a shock. It's probably my supremely unhealthy eating habits (I eat eggs and meat) which lead to the conclusion that if everybody lived like me, I would need 4 planets Earth.

    I'd need 3.2 planets.  But these questions are such that anyone who lives in the country away from public transportation and such are practically doomed to exceed the planet.  I'm just glad there are plenty of folks content to live piled up in rows, columns, etc.  ;o)  -  Barbara

    My total footprint was 13, and we would need 2.8 planets if everyone lived like me, at least according to this site!
