A playground in the centre of Stornoway was cordoned off this morning, after soil samples revealed high concentrations of heavy metals present. The playground is adjacent to the building site where the former Bridge Centre stood. Further investigations are required to ascertain the level of danger to the public. Local council officials have declared that any risk to the public is minimal, and that the playpark was closed as a precautionary measure.
