Monday notes

Awoke to the sound of the horn on the ferry blasting away in the early morning fog. This was low cloud, descending to sealevel. The fog lifted shortly afterwards, leaving a mainly sunny morning. Overnight lows 5C, a bit nippy, but current temperature 14C.

The cyclone I mentioned last night has turned into a category 4 hurricane, with winds of 130 knots, that's 150 mph, gusting to 160 knots, 180 mph. The forecasters are not sure where it will make landfall; this could be in Oman, Iran or Pakistan. The satellite image in the previous entry is automatically updated, and shows the current position of the hurricane.

Vladimir Putin, Russia's president, has now decided to revert to the Cold War, by threatening to aim missiles at European cities. He is doing so in retaliation for American plans to erect missile defence systems in the Chech republic and Poland. President Bush has said that this is to counter the threat of nuclear weapons from Iran and North Korea. Problem is that Iran has no nuclear weapons; North Korea does.

  1. That is one scary thought about missiles being aimed at European citys even in just a threat. The wider picture does not bare thinking about.

  2. We had cloud at sea level late last night, I took some pics of it coming into land, it looked so eerie! Quite scary news about Russia, I hope they back down, haven't they learnt yet that war does no good? Jeannette xx  http://journals.aol.co.uk/jlocorriere05/Welcometomytravels/
