Cloudy day in the isles, but not too bad altogether. The flooding problems in central and northern England seem to be getting worse and worse. The city of Worcester is having wet feet, Retford and Newark in Nottinghamshire are flooding and a man is missing presumed dead after falling into a dyke (drainage ditch) near Doncaster.
Tony Blair has stepped down as British Prime Minister, after an unusual Prime Minister's Questions session at noon, which ended in a cross-party round of applause. Tony Blair went to the Queen to submit his resignation, after his wife Cherie gave a parting shot to the media, saying she wouldn't miss them. The BBC anchormen took it badly, and it was a jarring note on an otherwise memorable occasion.
Gordon Brown has been invited to form a government, an invitation which he accepted, and is now in the process of forming. It's all change, and we shall see what transpires.
The former chairman of Western Isles Health Board has deprived a primary school near his home in North Harris of drinking water, by damming the stream that provided them with their supply. Council bowsers (watertankers) now ferry water to the school at Cliasmol, until the former chairman takes his dam down, which he erected illegally.
Small wonder he was kicked out of the job with an attitude like that.

We are getting a soaking today, oer night there was a fair amount down, and today short sharp showers. Although there warning we are going to be hit again at the weekend. Will be needing fishing wader boots at this rate. Not looking forward to Browns entry into power. I still think a genral election should be called for. I hope you remain dry up there in the isles.

Sky News got it mixed up at first and thought Cherie Blair said "I will miss you'. They changed that around in the course of the programme to say she said "I won't miss you". It was just the truth I suppose. I'm sure the British press can bounce back from that small missile. lol!
ReplyDeleteWhat about this former chairman of Wesetern Isles Health Board? That was very naughty...unless he knows more than others and there is something in the water??? What makes him want to be a pariah in his own community I wonder?
This wide spread flooding is disastrous! I read that some houses were stupidly built on the flood plains of some of these areas. Where is the foresight?

Cloudy here so far today, too. Yesterday, was an 80 plus degree day. But as the day wore on, the clouds rolled in and the humidity was horrible. Of course, dumb me, I picked an "in the house" task for the day and was miserable all day, while washing curtains, moving furniture to vacuum, etc. Oh..they just said it's supposed to be 70 degrees today and tomorrow rain. I heard that today was Mr Blair's last day, but haven't seen any of the new reports yet. Happy Wednesday. Linda in Washington state
