Interior of the island

Two years ago, I had this habit of boldly going where not many went before: the interior of Lewis. It is basically one big bog, interlaced with more lochs than you have fingers or toes. The trick is to know where you can and cannot cross the waters. I posted these pics at the time, but wanted to give them another airing. Oh, AOL pictures is STILL denying me access to albums ($%^&*), so have to do it this way.

Shooting hut, accessible only by stepping-stones.

More stepping stones along the Grimersta River

This is the outflow of Loch Langabhat, a body of water some 12 miles long. Fording this was dangerous.

Trealabhal, the hill in the background,  is NOT accessible, except if you are prepared to swim the lochs.

This causeway has been flooded by high levels of water in the loch. Don't try to cross here. It did mean a major diversion in my walk that day in 2005.

Gorge on the Laxay River, a few miles north of the village

  2. Thanks again, these photo's are so atmospheric. You can almost feel the emptyness and the silence. It is such a priviledge for you to be able to walk along these lovely paths that must have been walked along for so many many years..maybe lovely might not be quite the right word Lol  !! sybilsybil45
