It's a breezy and overcast day in the isles, cooler than of late.
The local council is facing a £100,000 lawsuit by an 18-year old woman who alleges that her career was damaged by the failure of the council to address bullying problems at the Nicolson Institute in Stornoway. The teenager who came to the island from England with her mother 4 years ago, says she was subjected to bullying at school for being English, and decided to move to Sheffield to complete her education. Complaints to the relevant authorities drew a blank, and now Comhairle nan Eilean Siar faces a lawsuit over the allegations. The council has said they will defend the lawsuit vigorously.
The islanders of Eigg are celebrating the 10th anniversary of their buy-out. In 1996/7, they mounted a bid to buy their own island off their absentee landlord. I have been closely involved with this whole saga from the outset, and will write a couple of entries about it. For now, have a look at this summary on the BBC website.
