Weather basically the same as yesterday: sunny, but with fog banks rolling up against the Arnish Hills. Webcam shows this quite well. Coastguard just drove off with two vehicles, hope something has been found on the West Side. The boy, lost in the canoeing accident 6 days ago, is still missing.
Four British tourists have been seriously injured in a coach crash in the Belgian coastal town of Middelkerke. They are among 23 casualties. The vehicle apparently left the road, collided with a house. A wall subsequently collapsed. Three inhabitants of the house were also injured. Am monitoring Belgian news media on this story.
This weekend, concern was expressed over young teenagers drinking alcohol to such an excess that they end up in hospital with alcohol poisoning. A few days ago, a lad of 12 was hospitalised with suspected kidney and liver damage after drinking a bottle of vodka. When researching the above coach crash, I came across a similar story from the Netherlands, where a lad of 12 was found unconscious along a public footpath. In both cases, the liquor had been bought by people who were old enough to purchase it. A similar problem exists here in Stornoway, and the police have cracked down hard on it.

Weather sunny here as well Guido but quite humid. How sad about that crash. Cannot understand this Government. They allow pubs to stay open for 24 hours if they wish. Now they are trying to find ways to stop binge drinking!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the updates G. Something odd is going on with"child alcoholics" popping up all over the globe. It's rampant in college towns but that's expected. 8-yr old babies are pouring straight vodka into themselves like it's water. How did this get so far advanced without anyone really seeing it? And it's always liquor they get at HOME. Don't parents notice a whole bottle of whiskey missing? Don't they see their babies passed out in the mashed potatoes? Police crackdowns aren't going to fix this, it's hiding behind doors and closets where they can't go. I just pray, what else can one do. Much love, CATHY

I do hope its the boy they have found. I live very close to a small play park and the teenagers and younger drink there every friday and saturday nights. Young girls crying and screeching because they can not handle booze is shaming a proper eye opener. If i had behaved in this manner i would have been given a good hiding. and banned from going out. But there again we had better things to do than drink. What i do not know!!!!
ReplyDeletehope your weekends been good
love and hugs

I've never been able to understand the attraction to alcohol to the extent of almost killing themselves. And why would any adult be so stupid to buy a child of 12 a bottle of vodka? It's unbelieveable. Linda
