Follow up

On Thursday, 19 July 2007, German tourist Sara Lodhi went shopping in Castlebay, Barra. She caught a lift back to her self-catering cottage in Vatersay and was dropped off there at 11.30 am. A week later, the proprietor went to the cottage to prepare it for the next holidaymaker, only to find Ms Lodhi's possessions, including her purse and shopping still there. She was reported missing to the police.

On Saturday 28 July, a body was washed ashore at Orosay, South Uist, 15 miles from Vatersay. Police were not able to confirm its identity at the time - not until today.

Today's West Highland Free Press carries confirmation that the body of Sara Lodhi was recovered from the shore at Orosay on July 28th, 2007. A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal, as per procedure in these cases.

I promised an update back in July. I had this horrible idea that it was the tourist that had washed up in Uist. I am pleased for the family in Nuremberg, Germany, that they finally have closure.

  2. I wouldn't think I'd have closure until all the details of how she ended up dead were found...but at least they can give her a proper burial....

  4. How awful, I am guessing she is a victim of foul play?  At least her parents do have closure, sometimes that doesn't really help all that much though...trust me on this.
