Birds sing in the morning. Heard on Scottish news that the Lochnevis (Small Isles ferry) was unable to dock at the Isle of Muck for the whole of January, apart from * one * occasion. These problems were due to storm damage and an exposed location for the new pier. A row has broken out between the islanders, Calmac and the local council. The Muck folk didn’t want a pier at Gallanach, which (as facing north) is a more sheltered location than Port Mor. They also blame the size of the ferry. Guys, please! Rain forecast for today, but fairly bright at the moment. There is some drizzle about though. Spent 2 hours in the library chasing up the info sent by email; old copies of the Stornoway Gazette (1918 and 1992) as well as the Lewis Roll of Honour 1914-18. Had lunch in the Lews Castle Grounds. Went back on the 14.20 bus. The South Lochs driver forgot I was getting off at Ravenspoint. Maximum temps tomorrow 8 – 12C. The low sun is a driving hazard at 4.30. Sun sets at 4.49 out here. Sun rises at 8.30, so we have 8 hours 19 minutes of daylight time in SY, up from the 6h19 back in December. Lerwick, at latitude 60N, lags behind with 8 hours flat.
