Well, I'm sorry for being a one-topic blogger over the last few days. However, I noticed a flood of readers to both my Tropical Cyclone blog (1,140 today) and this blog (778), and two comments that made my hair stand on end. So, decided to put up as much info as possible. Can only cross my fingers and hope for the best.
Please spare a thought for a 13-year old boy who is missing tonight off the coast of Bragar, 15 miles northwest of Stornoway. The coastguard were called out this afternoon, after a lady noticed a canoe with two people in it off the shore near Bragar. A quarter of an hour later, the canoe had washed up and nobody was nearby. She raised the alarm, and the coastguard helicopter rescued a man from the water. He later died in hospital in Stornoway. His son is still missing. Darkness (for as much as you get at this time of the year) has fallen, but the search will be resumed at daybreak, at 4 am.
I noticed the Coastguard racing off at 7 o'clock, sirens blaring, from their station across the bay, not realising what the emergency was. The lifeboat also went out at speed. She would face a 50 miles journey round the island to reach Bragar. The village is indicated on the below map with a purple circle.

Thanks again for all your warnings. I know that luckily the storms do not affect us directly but it is good to know what other people are going through and although not a lot we can do we can keep those folks in our thoughts. Also praying for the Mum of the poor boy missing and his Father already found. Good Night sybilsybil45
ReplyDeleteIts the silly time of year again where the warm weather brings out little boats and kids who do not know the danger about currents and winds and tides. I hope and pray that the teen gets found safe and sound. I have found todays journal reading very interesting. Following hurrican updates are very new but all the more interesting seeing one progress through your journal. I was able to show my son the satalite image. He also found it a education.
ReplyDeleteLove and hugs
