Hurricane advice - Oman

Advice for those in Oman likely to be affected by Cyclone Gonu

Cyclone Gonu will start to impact the Oman coastline in the next 12 to 24 hours. Musqat will see the storm passing by in the Gulf of Oman on June 6th.

Weather conditions will be EXTREME. On nearing land, the storm will bring winds of 220 kph, gusting to 260 kph. Whilst passing into the Gulf of Oman, winds will decrease, but on passing Musqat, speeds of 125 kph are still possible. The seas are likely to be phenomenal, with waves reported as high as 13 metres - that is a 4 storey block of flats.

Please take some time to read through the preparation advice from the National Hurricane Center - follow the link.

In summary:
* assess whether you need to evacuate: you should consider that if you are near the water, or in a low-lying area
* take essentials with you for 3 days
* organise a place to stay
* think of your pets.
