On February 19th, 9-year old Shannon Matthews left a swimming pool in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire. She has not been seen since. Concerns are growing for her well-being, and the head of her primary school has released new pictures of the girl. Nonetheless, Shannon's disappearance is already threatening to slide into the shadows of publicity, as her parents do not have vast monetary or media resources.
Madeleine McCann, the 4-year old who went missing in Portugal 10 months ago, was kept in the media spotlight, thanks to the efforts of her parents. Countless reports of her alleged sightings keep popping up, and keep being popped as baseless.
I wish the same could be done for Shannon Matthews. Or for any of the other dozens, hundreds or thousands of children and adults who go missing without trace each year.
Please note I do not post images of children on my blog; if you wish to view Shannon's portrait, you need to visit the above link to BBC News.

This is such sad news, no child should be any less important than another based on monetary means. (Hugs) Indigo
ReplyDeleteThis is very sad, and I hope the girl is found safe and sound.
