I think everybody remembered what they were doing the moment they heard about the planes hitting the Twin Towers. At the time, I was at work.

Came down from the lunchtime round to find the storekeeper walking up the corridor with a weird look in his eyes. "A plane has flown into the World Trade Center in New York", he said. "They think it was an accident". Completed formalities for handing over, and was just gathering up bits and pieces for the next round, when the storekeeper reappeared, now visibly shaken. "Another plane went into the WTC! It must be terrorism".

No, it came by surprise to me in later... was not sure I should believe it... how could it be possible... and so many things passed my minds... I had to witness it on TV to believe it
ReplyDeleteI can remember exactly what we were doing. We were eating our lunch and unusually for us decided to put the t.v. on. We saw the news immediately it broke and we sat there speechless. It was like looking at a disaster movie but it was for real. I will never forget that moment.
ReplyDeleteIt was business as usual in the Physiotherapy dept. Around 1.30pm UK time the news gave the first details...everyone went quiet...and we looked at each other...aghast...not believing.. I will never forget George W. Bush's State of the Union Address..the emotion in that great hall was palpable even via television. I listened to each and every word...and cried for America.
ReplyDeleteVery tough times...
ReplyDeletebe well,

I was working nights at the time, I woke at 5pm and heard it on the radio. I couldn't believe it, it was just too unreal for me. Jeannette xx
