A few minutes ago we were treated to the unusual sight of the ferry, MV Clansman, coming into port, and it's Sunday afternoon. Having consulted the Calmac website, it became clear that the vessel stayed overnight in Ullapool on account of the near-gale force winds that lashed our coasts yesterday evening. The ship left Ullapool at midday and arrived on time at 2.45pm today.
The Glasgow Herald newspaper reported that moves are afoot to institute a Sunday ferry crossing during the Hebridean Celtic Festival, which will be held from July 11th until 14th this year. There were numerous complaints that people could not leave on Sunday, following the final events on Saturday evening, and either had to forfeit the Saturday events or take an extra day off work. Sunday sailings are a very contentious issue in the island, on account of a strong tradition of Sabbath observance.

Goodness, it must be unsettling when the weather is so bad ships can't even sail. I used to read every book I could find on sailing. Riding through storms just fascinated me, like in "The Perfect Storm." I loved the book more than the movie. I love reading old log books about sailing in days gone by. I so looked forwarad to "Master and Commander" the movie Russelll Crow made but was a little disappointed. Gerry
