Western Isles Council have tonight approved the proposed windfarm for North Lewis by 18 votes to 8. This approval is subject to 50 conditions, one of which is the removal of 5 turbines from the plans. The proposal now goes to the Scottish Executive.
The windfarm has encountered strong opposition in the areas where the turbines are to be built, Ness and the West Side. The RSPB has also voiced its misgivings, in terms of environmental impact and the projected numbers of jobs.
