Wednesday notes

Nice sunny day, but occasional snow showers are drifting down the Minch. They present a beautiful subject for pictures, and I'll post my latest harvest later this afternoon. A chemicals tanker, the Keewhit, is stationary just southeast of here, within my direct sight. Because of the glare of the midday sun, it does not show up on the webcam.

It would appear that hackers tried to bring the whole of the Internet down last night. They obviously failed, as we're all still able to post. Read more here in this report from BBC News.

Snow is likely to bring major disruption to England over the next few days, with 6 to 8 inches forecast to fall. The battleground between mild air to the southwest and colder air to the north will slowly shift north in the next 7 days, dumping snow as it progresses.

Both tropical cyclones I mentioned over the last few days, one in the Indian Ocean and one in the Gulf of Carpentaria, are on their last legs. The one in Australia could re-emerge over open water and regenerate. The Australian Bureau of Meteorology has NOT picked this up. Hope they do once ex-Nelson pops up over Cairns.
