Typhoon Man-yi is approaching Okinawa with winds which will top 135 knots or 150 mph sustained winds, gusting to 150 knots or 165 mph near its centre. The windfield surrounding the typhoon is extremely large, with galeforce winds occurring within a 300 mile radius of the centre, and hurricane force winds within 80 miles. Okinawa is going to receive a hammering. Southwestern Japan from Sasebo to Tokyo will also be strafed in about 2 days' time, but by then the typhoon will be weakening and turning into an 'ordinary' depression - still with winds of 65 mph.
