An airliner has crashed at the airport of Jogyakarta, Indonesia. More than 100 passengers managed to escape the plane after it burst into flames. It would appear that the Garuda jet overshot the shortish runway at Jogyakarta. Some reports say the front wheel of the aircraft was on fire before it crashed.
Although many did manage to escape the inferno, 22 have been confirmed dead, with a number still missing. Among them are several Australian nationals. Further info here.
A few months ago, an aircraft disappeared south of Sulawesi and was later found at the bottom of the sea. Indonesia's air industry has a poor safety record.
