The Pacific island nation of Vanuatu has been strafed by galeforce winds through today (they are 12 hours ahead of GMT). Although New Caledonia has been put on the first stage of a tropical cyclone alert, Cyclone Becky looks set to fizzle out before reaching this French dependency.
Eyes will now turn to the Indian Ocean, where something might be brewing in the centre of the ocean.
