Spring showers

Went out for an amble round the Battery this afternoon, which saw a complete change in weather throughout the 40 minutes that the walk took. Started off bright and sunny, then this cloud loomed up in the west and turned into a sharp but short rainshower. Some pretty ferocious squalls with that as well.

Noticed that the oilrig, which has been gracing our view for the past 4 days, is positioned well offshore, east of Kebock Head. That's 12 miles south of here. The shower left a rainbow behind when the sun came back out again.

The Battery is not the most inspiring place in Stornoway, dominated as it is by the power station and allied machinery and junk. But it has a fairly prominent position, giving a nice glance down the coast. On clear days, you can see as far as the Isle of Skye, 40 miles to the south.

  1. Love the photographs Guido.  I so long to tour Scotland.  We were going to do that in the month of August when I found out about my cancer.  We hadn't had a holiday away for about 22 years.  It was not to be.  I wanted to go and watch for otters and whales. One day......we will see.....
As for the hailstones?  We had those the other day...you can keep them!  Today is sunny and warm.  I noticed Bryan sunbathing on the patio when I went upstairs to check on my beef joint for tea.  As for the Battery...every picture tells a story and a story teller would have a ball with some of these piccy's Guido.  Jeanie
