Pretty wild day in the islands, with a near-gale going all day. Is nothing in comparison to the overnight force 9, which saw gusts up to 77 mph in the far north of the island. Ferry services are said to be disrupted, but the Isle of Lewis ferry here is on time.
The severe weather in the south of England has claimed three lives. A teenage girl died on Dartmoor, north of Plymouth, after she fell into a river, swollen by 25 mm / 1 inch of rainfall in the preceding 12 hours. Two sightseers in Cornwall were swept into the sea by heavy waves as they stood watching the conditions on a pier. Although a lifebelt was thrown into the water, the line linking the belt to the shore broke and
both drowned.
Although we're now well into March, it's obvious the month has come in like a lion. The weather charts show no sign of improvement, with windy conditions in the north of Scotland set to continue into Tuesday.
A tropical cyclone west of Darwin, Australia, will develop into a category 3 hurricane on Tuesday or Wednesday, with winds near the centre exceeding 100 mph. Fortunately, the system will be well offshore. Shoreline communities in the Kimberley can expect heavy swells though.

March certainly has come in like a lion Guido. I don't think I would have wanted to be a passenger on the Isle of Lewis Ferry though in this windy weather.
ReplyDeleteWe have been getting intermitant showers of rain and we have winds but nothing too drastic. Just gusts.
I haven't had a chance to see the news today...I had no idea the south of England was experiencing such rough weather. My sister lives ten minutes drive from Dover. I wonder how they are down there? Love your moon pictures. The daily Mail has some super ones with the Liver Building in the foreground and the various stages of shadows through to red to the left of the building, on one of its inside pages. I wouldn't mind a glossy shot of that one as its brilliant! Stay dry and snug. Jeanie
Yes, it really has been some lion ish weather since March began...
ReplyDeletebe well,

Sorry about those people who drowned. Nasty weather you are having for sure. I look outside and feel like I'm in a totally different world. Calm and sunny here. Am I in the twilight zone?

You can take your pick here wind, snow, ice and more wind. It's quite nasty outside at the moment. Its suppose to be 20 below with the windchill tonight. I enjoyed reading this article , alot of interesting facts here. (Hugs) Indigo
ReplyDeleteOMG I meant the previous entry to be for your latest post. Of course it's horrible about the drowning deaths. I seem to be a bit out of it these days. (Hugs) Indigo
ReplyDeleteI heard about the girl on Dartmoor, the river Dart is very dangerous when it's swollen. We have gales here to, I love to listen to them at night but not so nice in the day! Jeannette xx
ReplyDeleteWow, the weather sounds terrible there...we have high winds, temps in the teens to 30's and snow coming tomorrow...hope we both see spring soon...take care,
