Of mice and men

The area along the Yangtse River in China has been inundated by millions of mice, following severe flooding. Islands in Dongting Lake have become submerged in the water, prompting 1 billion mice (yep, 1,000,000,000 give or take a million or so) to flee to dry land. Once there, they munched their way through crops. People have been trying to despatch the critters, killing 2.3 million using their bare hands, shovels and poison. Unfortunately, the latter course left 1,000 cats dead in one town, after they ate the poisoned mice. More here, including video footage of mice overrunning an area in their thousands.
Wanna have a look what millions of mice look like?

  9. What a nightmare!   To think that they will eventually find another space around in this area in which to live if they don't get most of them culled now.  Poor cats....how sad for them but folks wouldn't have thought about that at the time.   Jeanie
