Nice morning, although the sun is obscured by increasing cloud. Today is Thursday, so I'll be hopping out later to gather the regional papers, which come out today.
Local weekly Stornoway Gazette gives all the news from the islands, whilst the West Highland Free Press covers the West Highlands as well as all the islands north of Ardnamurchan. They tend to be very vocal, although of late I've come to disagree with their stance on windfarms. The Free Press is blindly in favour, and cries wolf the moment anyone is opposed. Bearing in mind that 90% of islanders here are against the proposed windfarms in Lewis (300 turbines of 450 to 500 feet tall each), they have gone a bit astray.
Looking at the weather radar, I discern some atrocious weather conditions in northwestern England and Wales, with torrential rain showing. This is moving north. As current temperature here is only +2C, we might get some snow. However, we're next the sea, so there's no guarantee. Older people tell me of a snowfall in the 1950s which was so severe that it was impossible to use a car to cross the Barvas Moor (rises to 350 feet above sealevel). A landrover managed to make the crossing, but the driver found a snowgoose plastered across the grill on reaching Stornoway.

ReplyDeleteIf our papers are in favor of anything, regardless of how the public feels ~ the continue to "spin" the issue to make it sound as though only a minority of folks are opposed instead of the masses.
