With thanks to Petar [pvodogaz] who kindly supplied me with a couple of links, I can now monitor George very closely. The cyclone is crossing the coastline, some 20 miles east of Port Hedland in Western Australia at this moment. The weather readings from the town suggest as much, with winds exceeding 65 mph, gusting in excess of 90 mph. Rain is falling at a rate of 7 mm every hour. The projected pressure in the eye of the storm is said to be 910 mbar; average pressure at sealevel is around 1,015, so this is extremely low. A warning is outstanding for gusts up to 170 mph. The local radiostation (ABC Northwest) has an all-night program. Bear in mind that they are 9 hours ahead of GMT, and 14 hours ahead of EST.
