Hurricane update - 9 May 2007

PLEASE RELAY

A subtropical storm is present off the southeastern United States, and a tropical storm WATCH has been issued from Altamaha Sound GA southward to Flagler Beach FL. A tropical storm watch means that tropical storm conditions are possible within the aforementioned area generally within the next 36 hours.

Subtropical Storm Andrea is NOT a hurricane, the system carries winds of 40 knots - this equates to force 9 on the Beaufort scale or a severe gale. Its current movement is towards the west at 3 knots, and further intensification is not forecast. Andrea is expected to dissipate as a subtropical system within 5 days; a weakening trend is discernible at present.

The latest statement was issued at 1105 EDT by NHC. Please keep up-to-date with developments by monitoring the NHC website. Please advise anyone in the area who may not be aware of the imminent hazard.
