Tuesday notes

Very sunny afternoon in the islands with temperatures at a moderate 16C / 60F. Across on the mainland, the mercury is expected to peak at 21C / 70F today. Our temperature is lower because the easterly wind blows in across a cold stretch of water.

Am off in about an hour's time for a brief visit to Laxay, which is about 12 miles south of here, for the purposes of locating a few Iolaire related graves in the local cemetery down there. The bus I'm due to travel on is the schoolbus, so we're up for fun and games from the secondary school pupils.

Visibility today is extremely good, with mountains near Lochalsh visible from Stornoway. The distance is 75 miles. The end of the good weather is slowly moving within sight: the breakdown will commence here on Friday.

The mountains you can discern in the picture below, looking over the green hills in the foreground are 50 miles away, in the Isle of Skye. Bother the name-change.
