Hebridean Celtic Festival

This is primarily a music festival, which I don't think I'll be seeing much of this year. There are three main concerts, and the line-up does not contain any bands of my acquaintance. As I've shown in a picture on Tuesday (11th), the tent is right across the water from Cromwell Street, the main street in Stornoway, so it's easy to innocently amble along and sort of appreciate the music from there. Mind you, in favourable wind conditions, the sound carries as far as the village of Lower Sandwick, 2 miles to the east.

The Festival is more than just the evening concerts. Events have been organised all over the island of Lewis & Harris, giving those in outlying districts the opportunity to sample some Celtic music at first hand. In the town of Stornoway, a guided walk is organised, and evening concerts in An Lanntair (all a sell-out) provide a supplementary to the venue in the tent. Gaelic beginner's lessons are provided from the Pointers Youth Cafe on North Beach Street, right in the heart of the town.

Website http://www.hebceltfest.com provides all the details, and maybe inspires you to a visit in 2007?! All welcome. You can subscribe to an email newsletter from that site if you're interested.
