Faces from the War Memorial

Several sessions in the library and on the Internet later, I am finally starting to compile the memorial of casualties from World War I, from Lewis, on the web. I have decided to put it in a blog format, on Blogger. I tried AOL, and it chewed it up, disliked the HTML, and spat it out at me. So, Blogger it be. I am putting it up village by village, with portraits where available - I have some 400. This is going to keep me busy for a wee while yet. If you have a constructive comment, please leave it on that blog, or on here if you prefer. The name? Faces from the War Memorial.

Not sure whether this is a constructive comment, but I must say it.  This is such an admirable undertaking.  It has, and will, demand much time and effort.  The families of those honored here will be able to cherish this memory of their family members and loved ones for many years to come.  My hat's off to you my friend.

  3. Dear Guido.. You have in progress a truly wonderful lasting memorial to those brave men of the Island. What a legacy to leave for all their families and the many others who will use your Blog in the future when they are investigating the past wars. I do hope that eventually you manage to have it published in print form as well for the many older folks who are not going to have computers. Sybil

  4. Always I see on War Memorials the names of the young men of the towns.  So many of whom never returned. My husbands father was only 26 when he died dismantling a bomb in Coventry.
This is a commendable compilation and tribute to those young men of Lewis Guido.  One which will be here for posterity too. I agree with Sybil that those without computers might thank you one day if it was written down and given to the library archives. (For future decendants possibly?)  As I get to know you more you never cease to be a truly remarkable and thoughtful man.  Well done!
