Ships' info

The Ronez is a cement carrier, and you can see the truck it is discharging its cargo into on the far left of the picture.

The Guard Baltic is an old, 1974 built, Norwegian fishingboat that has been converted for search-and-rescue purposes. Cannot find any definite info on her, I just go on the AIS data, which is not terribly reliable.

The Akademik Lazarev is a Russian research vessel based at Murmansk. She collects seismic data for the oil industry. This boat is 20 years old.

The Lorient fishingboat is called the Jean Claude Coulon (according to info from France), and she's been visiting Stornoway for 18 months. Crews are changed here, being flown up from France and the relieved crew returned by the same charterplane.

  1. Well you can't judge a 'boat' by its cover and then tell its age..re- the Guard Baltic.
I thought the Academy Lazarev was an unusual name too, but interesting and intriguing.  Thanks for the info Guido.  I shall save this information.  Ta muchly....Jeanie
